Acupuncture
Acupuncture is a non-drug, non invasive therapy that may produce a variety of benefits; from pain management to helping with nausea associated with chemotherapy. Acupuncture is one of the oldest healing arts, and originated in China and other Asian countries thousands of years ago.
Acupuncture embraces the belief that all illness is caused by an interference in the flow of energy, also known as qi "chi", and imbalance of two opposing and complimentary forces within the body: yin, the cold and passive aspect, and yang, the hot, active and excited aspect. Acupuncture stimulates specific point on the body with hair-thin needles to restore balance between yin and yang and unblock the flow of energy/qi "chi".
Medical physicians explains the positive effects of acupuncture through stimulating nerves, muscles and connective tissue. This increases the bodies natural activity to regulate pain and increase blood flow.
Acupuncture can be effective in the treatment of the following diseases and injuries as reported by the World Health Organization:
The diseases or disorders for which acupuncture therapy has been tested in controlled clinical trials reported in the recent literature can be classified into four categories as shown below.
